DIY Electric Hydrofoil Kit 12S 6Ah 3000W
This is just a quick project to see how fun an electric hydrofoil is. I do not recommend to use a brushless motor like I did, because the bearings wear out after 10 hours of intense use. The propeller I used is the same type as my electric stand up paddle board but instead of 94mm diameter a 70mm propeller is better suited for 12S. But definitly not perfect. Also the batteries cant provide the maximum power. At 70% throttle the controller cuts off because of low voltage. The Lipos are 2 years old and took a lot of abuse, so I was surprised about 10 min of runtime. I guess 30% throttle input at about 30Amps is nessesarry for 25km/h flying speed.

A few short clips of me improving my hydrofoil skills. I currently have the 390 rear wing but the 460 is already ordered. Waterstarts requires too much power. A bigger 6S Lithium Batterie is needed also for weight instead of the stump (best placed in the middle of the board). Pulling the hydrofoil dosen't require more then half throttle, but I'm still curious to see how much speed 12S LiPos wil...

Wow, nicely done! Rig that and being able to foil as well! You are doing great, takes hundreds of falls to learn it. MUCH help on the internet, some great video guides now available if you want to shorten the learning curve.

What kind of motor did you use? I’m experimenting with a trolling motor, but I think it will be a lot lower torque
Yeah i got a trolling motor and it trolled me with very low torque

You needed to use a different gear ratio, not enough torque and too much rpm currently i think For 3500w you should be getting way more thrust

Handdrill dipped in corrosion x for waterproofing and attached to a handheld propeller. Future Goal achieve minimum speed through paddling and motor so the board is planeing just enough so you can ollie on to foil and pump by human power. Smallest battery possible for a max of 30 starts, minimum wattage possible to get to ollie speed flat water start. All on a dockstart board.

Get your weight further forward on the board so it sits a little flatter in the water and I think there will be less drag and even more speed.
